B.P.A.L. Inaugural Soccer Tournament
The Banning Police Activities League kicked off on 02/10/07 with the First Annual B.P.A.L. Soccer Tournament. The tournament was made possible with the help of Rio Ranch Market, Sonido D.J., J.R.C. Commissary, Sporting World, One Touch Mobile Detailing and Tires, K.O. gangs and the G.R.E.A.T. program. Special thanks to Nicolet Principal Matt Valdivia for providing the Nicolet Middle School Stadium for the festivities. We had approximately 80 players in 4 teams and a good number of parents/spectators. In the end, Italia beat Barcelona 3-2 and came away with the first place trophy. Barcelona received the 2nd place trophy. The third place trophy went to Real Madrid who beat Brazil in a hard fought game. All of the players received a medal for participating in the tournament. Various items (soccer balls, footballs, t-shoes, t-shirts and water bottles) where raffled at the conclusion of the trophy presentation ceremony. Thanks to all of our participants, sponsors and spectators for making this our first tournament a success. We look forward to a continued partnership between the Banning Police Department and the citizens of the City of Banning. Special thanks to the Record Gazette, the San Bernardino Sun and Mr. Bud Mathewson (Public Access Television), for their coverage of the event.
